The nation is facing several serious issues right now. Although Syria is disarming chemical weapons, the political relations between the United States and the Assad regime are far from mended.

Also, the government is shut down, and, by many estimates, will remain that way at least for another week. Congress faces another debate on raising the debt ceiling and may push the nation to default on its loans if lawmakers cannot agree.

All of these issues haven’t stopped supporters of immigration reform to push Congress to take action on the subject. According to the Washington Post, more than 100 protesters were arrested this week during a sit-in near the Capitol. Among those arrested were eight members of Congress that were there to lend their support to the cause.

Protesters Fight To Keep The Immigration Bill Alive

The protest was a response to reports that the immigration bill, which currently is stuck in the House, may not receive any further attention for at least one year. The protestors rallied to keep the bill on lawmakers’ radar and hopefully force action. The rally attracted Mario Lopez and the popular norteño band Los Tigres del Norte.

Besides encouraging lawmakers to vote on the bill, the protestors also hoped to raise public awareness to the record number of deportations that have occurred during Obama’s term in office. The stalled bill would institute a path-to-citizenship program, alleviating the deportation fears of many illegal workers.

At O’Brien Law Group, we offer a full range of immigration services, and we are able to handle immigration, naturalization and deportation cases. We have extensive experience working in family immigration, employment immigration and consular processing.
